Christmas came early this year!
On Friday night I went down to The Shops at Don Mills to pick up my new bike from Heath and staff at The 11 bike shop. I have been looking forward to this day for months. I have drooled over pictures of the Scott Plasma 5, and dreamt about the time I could post in Kona on a bike like that.
Finally the day had arrived and I couldn’t be more excited. I woke up that morning and wished Moniek a happy new bike day. I don’t think she was as excited as I was. Now my fitting wasn’t until 6 that night so I had to keep my excitement in check for many hours. Moniek and I went to work. “I get my new bike today” I announced excitedly to all my coworkers. I think I said it so many times that it was bordering on annoyance. Finally 4 o’clock rolled around and I went to pick up Moniek and head to The 11. I could barely contain my excitement driving down to The 11. I got to the shop and Heath was fitting a customer on a bike. I could see my new Scott Plasma right behind him and I continued to peek around the corner trying to get a glimpse of my new family member.
Finally the time came to see how the bike fit. I got changed and Heath set the bike up on the trainer. It was the moment of truth. I got on my new bike... it felt pretty good. But pretty good isn’t good enough for Heath. So he made one small adjustment and bam, the bike felt great! I have to say, Heath is the ultimate pro when it comes to bike fitting. I am so thankful that I went to The 11 for my new bike. As I mentioned before, I thought I was supposed to be on a 54cm frame, however Heath (after doing some measurements) told me that I needed a 52cm frame. He was absolutely right! I am so thankful that Heath was there to get me on the right bike.
Now that the fit was done I continued to stare at my new bike. It is a beautiful and fast looking machine. I am totally stoked to be riding the Scott Plasma! After leaving The 11, I had to get the bike back to Orillia. So... I rode it home! No I didn’t. I took my bike to the car and packed it up. I was being so careful about packing the bike up, that Moniek was able to go to shopping and finish up before the bike was packed away safely. Anyway, the bike got packed in the car and we headed home. I kept looking in my mirror to see it in the back. I also was driving more carefully. I guess that is what it is like when you are driving your new baby home for the first time.
We arrived home at about 9:30 pm and it was too late to test it out. Since I had to be in Caledon for 8 the next morning to train with C3, I tucked my new bike in (I almost curled up beside it) and went to bed. Morning could not come soon enough! I woke up Saturday grabbed my new bike and gear and headed down to Caledon. As soon as I got there, heads started to turn. That’s the beauty of this bike, it looks stunning and wicked fast. Many of the team members came up and checked out my new ride.
Now this was going to be my first ride on the Scott Plasma. I was beyond excited, but I was also slightly cautious. This bike is different from my last bike and it would be silly to go out and hammer on my first ride. So I went out with the group, I took it easy. I tried to gain an understanding of how it reacted under me. What I learned is; the bike wants to go fast! It is super responsive and you can feel every watt being used in the most efficient way. It rode like a dream.
My first ride was a huge success. I owe so much to Heath and the staff at The 11 for getting me on the right bike. I can’t wait to show you what I can do on this machine.
I also have to say a huge thank you to Dr. Michael Jackson from the Huronia Oral Surgery Group, for sponsoring me and helping me order in a new pair of cycling shoes while at The 11. My old shoes were partly to blame for my current foot issues. I can’t thank you enough for your support Dr. Jackson. By being in the proper equipment, I know that getting to Kona healthy and performing to the best of my abilities is a reality. Thank you Dr. Jackson!
I know that this has been a long post and I could continue on forever about my new bike. But now I am going riding!
